Level 2 Award in Food Safety for Retail
The aim of this qualification is to provide individuals employed in a food retail business with the practical, work related knowledge, they will need in order to comply with current food hygiene regulations. The hazards and controls in this type of environment differ from those found in traditional catering establishments, but are no less important.
The content of the course is designed principally for those who work in, or intend to work in, a food retail environment, where both packaged and/or open foods are available for purchase by members of the public, e.g. bakers, sandwich bars, delicatessens, convenience stores, supermarkets, take-away, fast-food restaurants. It is also an essential course for those staff who deliver meals to the customer’s home or place of work.
After successfully achieving this qualification, candidates will be equipped with the necessary knowledge required to improve the food safety of food retailers by: identifying potential hazards, implementing improvements, fully adhering to current food safety regulations, thus ensuring that hygienically compromised food is never sold to members of the public.
This qualification has the full support from Skillsmart Retail, the Sector Skills Council for Retail. It is therefore fully compliant with industry and regulatory standards, as well as being recognised by environmental health practitioners, auditors and other enforcement officers.
Duration of course: 1 day
Level 3 Award in Food Safety Supervision for Retail
Those achieving this accredited qualification will be equipped with the necessary knowledge to manage and supervise food safety effectively in any retail environment where food service and food sales are involved.
The food retailing environment is diverse and adequate controls must be in place for both high risk and low risk foods. This course is designed to equip those responsible for managing controls with the necessary competence to ensure that only safe food is sold.
One important aspect of food safety in a retail environment is ensuring that any controls applied by the supplier are continued to the point of sale. Achievement of this qualification will ensure that staff have the confidence to manage the continuity of the food safety chain in any retail situation. The qualification also focuses on how HACCP is applied to food safety in a retail environment and the role that those responsible for food safety should take to ensure that management systems are implemented and verified.
Those achieving this qualification will meet with the requirement for employers to train staff to a level that is commensurate with their work activities. The qualification is recognised by enforcement officers and auditors from nationally-recognised or independent auditing schemes.
Duration of course: 3 days
